Awesome Authors: Shelley Hitz

Whew! Today is the last day of the writing challenge! It was a lot of fun; however, after writing consecutively for 31 days, write two or three days a week should now be a piece of cake!

In my last post, I am highlighting author Shelley Hitz. Not only has she written many books, she recently re-branded herself and she now produces a fantastic podcast. She deals with all sorts of writing topics, from the writing process, to publishing, to marketing, to finding inspiration, and everything in between.

I love that her advice is practical and down-to-earth. Hitz takes the concept of writing and self-publishing, which can seem daunting and complicated, and breaks them down into doable, “bite-sized” chunks.

Shelley Hitz’s blog and books are great resources, especially for newbie self-publishers.

Awesome Authors: Catherine Francis

I have to preface this post with a disclaimer. Catherine Francis is one of my best friends and I helped her edit several of her writings, including Love’s Enduring Gift. And, even though I may be a *little* biased 🙂 , it doesn’t take away from the fact that Catherine is truly a gifted writer.

Catherine Francis’ novel, Love’s Enduring Gift, is a long book; however, it is engaging and keeps the reader engrossed from the very beginning. In addition, it is impossible not to love the characters and be envious of the family dynamics of the Eaton family. If you read her novel, there is no doubt that you will agree with me that Catherine Francis definitely belongs on this list of awesome authors.

P.S. I happen to be in the know that Catherine Francis is in the process of the first edits for her next novel which is a mystery. I’ve only read two chapters so far and I have to tell ya, it is already looking good!

Awesome Authors: Elizabeth Spann Craig

*This book is part of the Write 31 Days writing challenge.

I have to begin this post with a confession: I am not much of a mystery novel fan. I don’t like suspense or “not-knowing.” Therefore, I almost always read the last chapter of a book first – for any book. Yep, I am one of those Awesome Authors: Elizabeth Spann Craigcrazy ones. The only exception is for books that I’ve promised to read and review for the blog. In order to be fair and honest in my review, I don’t read the last chapter but sometimes it is still tempting to do so!

This wasn’t the case for Elizabeth Spann Craig’s novels. I don’t remember how I came across her books or even why I bothered to read one, Progressive Dinner Deadly, but I did. It may have been the bright cover or the interesting description, in any case, I started reading the book and instantly I was hooked. I can’t wait to finish working my way through the series.

Craig has a captivating and strong writing voice that kept me reading and it is impossible not to fall in love with Myrtle Clover. I love that she is 80 years old and yet she is spunky, perceptive, and assertive! There are few novels with senior protagonists, even fewer ones that don’t portray seniors as stereotypical cranky-pants or clueless fools. Craig has created a wonderful, smart and relevant character in Myrtle Clover.

Thus, if you enjoy mystery novels you should check out Elizabeth Spann Craig’s novels. She is, indeed, an awesome author.
