Book Review: H3 Leadership by Brad Lomenick

Book Review: H3 LeadershipFrom Book Description

True leadership can be complex. Brad Lomenick keeps it simple with the three transformational habits of leadership: stay hungry, be humble, always hustle. These powerful words describe the leader who is willing to work hard, get it done, and make sure it’s not about him or her; the leader who knows that influence is about developing the right habits for success.

My Comments

I have to admit that I am a little blown away by H3 Leadership. Anyone who is in the position of leadership should read this book – especially those of us how are authors or solopreneurs. Not only is it well-written, it is also practical, full of actionable advice, and chock full of real-life examples.

As indicated in the description, the book is broken down into three leadership skill sections: “Be Humble, Stay Hungry, and Always Hustle.” Then, each section is broken into various chapters that explain each skill, why they are important, and how to live them out in your life and business. Some of the chapters end with quotes from various people, some famous and some not-so famous, who give their take on the specific leadership trait being discussed.

As a successful business owner, Lomenick knows his stuff. Even better, he knows how to take his knowledge and share it in a way that is not only easy to understand but is also fun to read. Some business and leadership books can be kind of “dry” but not H3 Leadership. In fact, he has a way of writing that makes the reader feel as if he or she is having a sort of conversation with Lomenick. Additionally, by the time I was done with the book, I had a plan to put those concepts into action.

On a different note, another thing I liked about the book is the layout. There is a lot of white space, bold-faced type, and bullet points that make reading the book a pleasure. It is not cluttered or written in small type that is hard on the eyes. This may seem like a small thing but sometimes, especially when reading certain books, the layout can make a big difference on the reader’s experience.

Let me end the review with one of my favorite quotes from the book. It is a great reminder for all of us. It comes from the first section, on page 17:

“People would rather follow a leader who is always real versus a leader who is always right. Don’t try to be a perfect leader, just work on being an authentic one.”

As I am sure is no surprise(!), I absolutely recommend this book and give it four (4) stars.
