Your Writing Sucks (And Other Self-Defeating Lies)

I have to tell on myself here. It is only the third week in February and I have already bombed on two of my goals. Let’s not even thing about the fact that I am crushing it in other goal area. Oh, no, let’s just focus on the negative, shall we?!

One of the goals I bombed is researching and writing at least one guest post a month and the other one is to create at least two videos per month.

Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real

What is stopping me from achieving these goals? Fear, of course, and self-defeating back talk. Whenever I sit down to look into places to guest post my mind starts whirling: “Your writing sucks. Why bother? No one wants to read what you have to say. It is one thing to write on your own blog and another to write for someone else’s!”

As for the videos, I keep adding it to my to-do list but then it conveniently gets pushed below other things I have/want to do. It is easier to not just think about it!

However, those self-defeating lies are just that – LIES. I remember someone telling me a long time ago that fear really stands for “false evidence appearing real.” I don’t know who came up with that acronym but it is SPOT ON.

Here is the TRUTH: My writing is good enough. I AM good enough. And guess what?

You matter. Your voice matters. If you believe you have a message than you need to put it out to the world. The world needs what you have to say and/or give. Sure, it can be scary and make you feel vulnerable. However, the reward can be so much greater than the fear.

Of course, it is so easy to say/write that. Intellectually we know the benefits of getting past our fear. It is acting on that knowledge and doing the act we fear that is so difficult! At least for me. Am I the only one?!

So, as for me, I am going to push through and kick fear in the butt. I AM going to get a video done and look for a place to guest post. And yes, when I find a place that may be a good fit, I am going actually going to apply to write a guest post by the end of the month.

Now, it is your turn. What is on your goal or wish list? What is stopping you from following through? More importantly, what are you going to do this month to kick fear in the butt and make that goal an accomplishment? Do share in the comments so I can cheer you on and support you. 🙂
