I’ve heard some good things about Trim Healthy Mama so when I saw that the book was available for review through the Blogging for Books review program, I decided to give it a peek. After all, I am sure I’m not the only who is always looking to lose a few and get healthier. Right?! 🙂
There are a lot of things I like about this program. For one thing, is balanced. No extremes here! They recommend a wide variety of food items and although there are foods that need to be avoided, the authors are all about moderation and keeping it real. They understand that life happens and they give good advice on how to get back on track after a “blip” as they call it.
For another thing, it is flexible. The program is doable for all types of people, even those with allergies such as gluten (me), dairy, or nuts. Additionally, although they don’t necessarily recommend it, the plan is doable for vegetarians.
I also like how the authors write as if they are sitting at the table talking directly to me. The book reads like a witty, sometimes funny, conversation. The parts of the book where Pearl Barrett and Serene Allison banter back and forth gave me giggles.
As for the plan itself, the Trim Healthy Mama Plan goes into depth about what the plan really is, what the different meal types are (satisfying, energizing, etc), and how to incorporate them into your life. The book covers what to drink, what super foods we should be incorporating into our diets, and the right way to snack. There are also several 7 day meal plans to get the reader started with the diet.
I do have to say that I wish there were some actual recipes in the book. They do recommend websites that give recipes, and they do mention their cookbook. However, it would have been nice to see a few “teaser recipes” at least in the book.
Still, the plan looks great and worth implementing in one’s life. Thus, if you are looking for a balanced way to eat healthy, whether or not you need/want to lose weight, the Trim Healthy Mama Plan may be worth looking into. I give the book four (4) stars.
