How to Opt Out of Facebook Targeted Ads

From a marketing perspective, there are definite benefits for targeted ads. But from a consumer perspective, I don’t like my habits being tracked or targeted. Therefore, I always opt-out when given the opportunity.

In a perfect world, all privacy settings default would be opt-out. Unfortunately, in the real world, the default settings are usually opt-in. This includes Facebook.

According to Consumerist, Facebook has increased their advertizing to “include everyone and everywhere, regardless if you have a Facebook account or not.” Additionally, if you have a Facebook account they are “using your Facebook Account to sell those ads.”

Luckily, Consumerist gives a step-by-step guide on how to opt-out using your privacy settings. These instructions show you how to opt out on web and on your cell phone (Android and iPhone).
