My 3 Words for 2016

On Tuesday I shared my goals for the year. Today I want to share my 3 focus words. I got this idea from Chris Brogan a few years ago and have been doing it ever since. The three words are different but complement my goals because they help me to boil down my priorities into an easy to remember formula.

Thus, my three words are AUTHENTIC, FOCUSED, MERCY

I chose these words because I know they resonate deeply with me. I know that they will challenge me and help me grow as a person and business owner.

Authentic: I want to bring more of “me” into everything I do, both personal and professional. It is scary to allow oneself to be vulnerable or show one’s true colors because there is always that fear of rejection. However, with great risk often comes great reward and I believe that as I become more authentic I will connect with others on a deeper, more enriching level.

Focused: I feel like I was way too scattered in 2015. I let distractions, online and off, get in the way of progress I could have made in certain areas of my life. Hopefully, this word will keep me on track so that I will give my attention to those things that will push me forward toward my goals.

Mercy: No one is perfect. We all make mistakes and falter. The word mercy will help me to remember that and to give others (and myself!) grace when/if my expectations aren’t met or when things happen.

To help me even more, I printed out these words and have them where I will see them several times a day. My plan is to make them my mantra of sorts so that they become embedded in my heart and mind.

Now it’s your turn. Have you ever considered making up your own focus words? Do share
