My Comments

I am going to just going to come out and say that I am not a fan of the tone and humor of this book. I get the whole irreverent and sarcastic humor thing; in fact, I usually find it very funny. If you knew me in real life, you’d know that I have a dry sense of humor myself. Likewise, I appreciate the concept of creating a writing guide that isn’t so serious or dry. With this book, however, I thought the “irreverent” attempts were insulting, and honestly, I didn’t find a lot of the answers particularly “witty” or “hilarious.”

Having said that, there are some strong points to the book. Also, there are parts of the book that are chuckle-worthy, such as the section where the author answers a question in “napkin” form. And, “The Actual Message Mike the Tree Guy Left on My Answering Machine…” did blow me away. In addition, a lot of his answers are helpful and on point. In fact, the book is full of great writing advice if you can get past the sarcasm.

But, that’s just me. If you are into that kind of humor, you may really like this book and you should check it out. You may even want to add it to your arsenal of writing handbooks and guides. I give the book three (3) stars.
