What Does Your Perfect Day Look Like?

I recently listened to an episode of Alex Charfen’s podcast about the perfect day. It really had me thinking about how I run my business and I want you to think about it too.

So, take a minute to dream a little. Close your eyes and get a really good vision in your mind of your perfect day. What does it look like?

Is it a day of spending time with your favorite clients? Is it having enough white space to spend extra time with family or just for some “me time.” Is it having he space to create that new service or write that book? Or, maybe it is just a day where you are not spending putting out fires or dealing with emergencies?!

What if your perfect day was possible every day? Well, guess what? It is. It may take some planning and some initial work, but it is possible. Here’s how:

Step One:

Get a clear picture of what you really want your perfect day to look like. You can’t have your perfect day, week, month, year, or life if you don’t know what that day is supposed to look like.

If possible, take some time to write it down. Be as specific as you can. The more specific and detailed the better.

Step Two:

Create an actionable and achievable plan. What are the things that you will need to do or get done in order to create that perfect day/life? What is the timeline / deadline for each of those things? What changes in my mindset and/or business will I have to make in order to achieve my goal of the perfect day/life?

Step Three:

Build your team. If you don’t have any team members in place at the moment, now is the time to start thinking about building a team. You can’t create a thriving and successful business, while having a balanced life, by yourself.

If you are leery, or don’t know where to start, start small. Can you bring on a Virtual Assistant, graphic designer, social media manager, or content writer? If you already have a small team, can you bring on an Online Business Manager, to take over the daily operations of your business or to manage your team?

Step Four:

Automate, automate, automate. Automation is the key to running your business rather than it running you. Even if you have some automation in your business, it can always be improved!

Step Five:

Create some systems for your business. Systems are essential to running a smooth business and for allowing you to step away from your business. You probably have systems in your business but don’t realize it. However, now is the time to be intentional about creating sustainable systems.

Tina Forsyth recommends the following systems: backup systems, money systems, scheduling systems, communication systems, metric systems, marketing systems, relationship systems, sales systems delivery systems, and business foundational systems. Do you have systems in place for each of these areas of your business?

Once these steps are completed, it doesn’t mean that you will automatically have the perfect day/life, of course. From these steps you can work on creating and tweaking the best work/life balance that you want. Your perfect day will change as your priorities, wants, and needs change, too. However, these steps will give you the starting point you need to get going.

Monday Marketing Moment: Be in Integrity

Integrity is an important component to all aspects of our lives, especially in marketing. No one likes sleazy salespeople and no one likes it when someone doesn’t stay true to her word.

Monday Marketing Moment: Stay in Integrity

Here is the story: Over a week ago purchased a Christmas decorating item on Amazon. I ordered three, actually.  The information for one of the items promised a quick delivery, great service, etc.

Well, a couple of days ago, I got a notice from Amazon stating that they did not receive confirmation that the item has shipped. The estimated delivery date was December 3 (today), but it was never shipped. I contacted the seller, and guess what? No response, none. I really wanted the item but if I don’t hear back from the seller within the next couple of days, I will cancel the order.

Luckily, Amazon has always been quick to resolve issues for me, and hopefully that will be the case this time. Still, that never should have been an issue. The seller shouldn’t put something up for sale that he wasn’t able to deliver on. More importantly, he shouldn’t disappear and fail to communicate with his customers.***

A Good Reminder

This experience is a good refresher on how important it is to be true to your word and to run a business in integrity. If you say you are going to do something, do it. If you make a promise, deliver that promise – or better yet – exceed that promise.

As a coach, it is especially important to market and run your business in integrity. For better or for worse, you set the example for potential (and actual) clients. So, if you tell your clients one thing and do another, it will be a “do as I say, not as I do” situation. That will not be good for your business!

A Little Reflection

Can you think of a situation when you dealt with someone who was selling you something but lacked integrity? What was that situation? How did it make you feel? What would you have done differently? How can you translate this into your own business practices in order to safeguard your own integrity?

+++

***It turns out that although the seller has a 90-something overall rating, his rating for the last 30 has been 100% negative. So, I take responsibility for not doing a better job reading the reviews (especially the negative ones) like I normally do!
